It’s been over a week since I’m back from New York City (NYC) & am due this post. I must start by saying that the ‘fashion weekend’ in New York was an eye opener in many ways. Fashion week in NYC is estimated to be worth $900 million, I am still captivated by the fact that I was there to witness a little bit of it’s madness.
To begin with, there are several fashion events or weeks that happen around the same time. I’ll attempt to explain: one hears several names like Couture Fashion Week, Style Fashion Week, Fashion Gallery New York Fashion Week, Mercedez Benz Fashion Week (now simply called NYFW) & many more. All these events happen around the same time in September and Febuary in NYC. Couture Fashion Week is founded by designer Andres Aquino. This September saw the 22nd season of this event. Style Fashion Week is originally from California and this was their first event in NYC.
Coming to the most famous week, the one held by IMG – starting this season, is simply called NYFW. Everyone from editors, bloggers instagrammers, fashionistas, socialites, Hollywood stars swarm this event to show support and view collections from their famous designers.
The shows are held across several locations across the city. There is a lot of running from one location to another. That means making full use of the amazing public transport NYC has to offer, along with some serious walking. I averaged 20k steps that weekend! My calves are smiling happily from the recent muscle toning 😀
Obviously, wearing sensible footwear & comfortable clothing is an necessity! How do you do that when you are going to fashion week? In a city where everyone is always dressed on point, any self respecting fashionista will tell you to carry foldable ballerinas. This season, ‘sneakers with everything’ is in vogue. So one can always hop on that trend wagon too.
I chose the former. I picked a simple button down dress, which was just short of being ankle length and paired it with two toned booties (Also worn here). I’ve had these shoes for a few years now and I think they will be my fall staple. I wore a stone/rope neckpiece and my latest obsession – the Alexander McQueen sunglasses. I was ready to take on a Saturday at NYFW.
A special shout out to fellow blogger & fashionista Andrea Cano (check her blog – The Mannequin Tattoo) for these pictures.
Do you like what I wore? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
