We have had our eye on the Niranjan sisters for a while. Cheeky even connected with them to buy their car printed bolero jacket (from their first collection), but they were already sold out! Talk about their clothes flying off the rack!
Other than making great clothes, the sisters also run a magazine under the Blueprint label called Blueprint diaries!
Enough said, read on to get to know the very talented Navya and Divya Niranjan
ModaNinja Q: Tell us about yourself and your latest collection..
Navya: I don’t have any formal training in fashion designing but have possessed a certain amount of creativity and I believe creativity and fashion are intertwined. I started cooking recently and learnt that cooking and fashion are quiet similar. A few of the right ingredients and you can cook up a chic little number. Fashion is really something. It’s influencing, powerful, full of energy.
Divya: I have always been interested in fabrics and the way they are transformed via design into clothes. I have never had a formal training in fashion designing but later I was offered the role of a production manager with a leading designer in Chennai and that is where I really came into my own and discovered what I wanted to be. After a couple of years of gaining the requisite experience I decided to launch my own label, Blueprint in partnership with my sister, Navya.
About the collection – Since time immemorial, fairy tales have held an enchanting allure for all and sundry.
Quite fittingly indeed, with respect to the aforementioned theme, the Resort/Cruise 2014 collection from the stables of Blueprint Coleccion follows seamlessly and closely on the heels of our previous collection. The idea germinated from the fact that fairy tales depict outlandish fashion, giving us the scope of being bold and whimsical with our collection.
The fanciful aesthetic of the costumes in fairy tales can generate boundless creative ideas for modern fashionistas, who are armed with a unique punch. This is also well suited to the Blueprint tagline of keeping it bold and bright.
The story of Red Riding Hood traditionally portrays the good and bad sides, and quite starkly at that. We have earnestly tried to shake this up a tad with the little changes that we’ve made to make this tale our own, while giving it the edge our collection needed; by making good and bad, the two sides of the same person. Innocent Red and predator Wolf are the two main ideas around which the collection is designed, giving it the quirky, yet fierce look.
The colours, prints, silhouettes and textures that we have settled upon for this collection, stay true to the thought process that Blueprint Coleccion has always believed in. With every line of ours, we’ve intended to showcase bold and bright prints and colors. In keeping with this trend, you will see a whole range of colors combined with various prints in this collection, giving each piece the touch of magic it deserves.
