Disclaimer: I desperately want to experience every National Park in the United States, but I am ‘lazy’!
Allow me to explain the term lazy – I love the outdoors, but I love a comfy bed at the end of the day and my own bathroom. I also love adventure without too much exertion, so camping, and day long difficult hikes are a deal breaker for me! More over, I’ve been going through psychical therapy for knee pain, so when my husband and I decided to head to the Colorado Rockies for Memorial Day Weekend, I had to plan for activities that did not involve too much walking. Of course, I did not want to miss out on the gorgeous views from and off the mountains and everything else the outdoors has to offer. So here’s three things you can do in the mountains if you cannot hike or simply don’t want to because you’re a ‘lazy couple’.
Have you tried fishing yet?
All mountains have lakes, river and gorges! We stayed in Lupine Village which is walking distance from Grand Lake, cute town, and not too busy for a long weekend. The water was too cold to get into so we planned a fishing trip. The internet threw a bunch of fishing guide options, I called a few, you can choose from walking along stream and inlets to try your hand at fly fishing or stay put in a boat. I chose the latter and went with Fishing with Bernie. We kicked off our vacation in the mountains with 6 hours of catching Rainbow and Lake Trout, and Browns! I won our healthy competition beating Mr H, final score was CheekyNinja: 14, Mr. H: 11! And you thought fishing is boring?! Nothing is boring when you are winning!
Caution! The mountains can get hot!
The town of Hot Sulphur Springs is only an hours drive from Grand Lake, so out of curiosity, we booked a private pool to soak in the natural hot water. First off, the smell of sulphur can throw you off a bit, but once you get used to it, you’ll really enjoy the relaxing hot bath.
The good people at Ochie sent over a lovely floral printed swimsuit, and I’ve been waiting to wear it since winter. I haven’t been to the beach yet, so I took the opportunity to wear it to the sulphur springs and shoot some photos for all of you.
Ochie’s Swimwear designs are modern and sexy. The bottom is cut higher than what I am used to, but I love it because it’s so flattering! Staying on trend, their collection offers off shoulder, button down and cold shoulder designs. Far cry from traditional one pieces, I love it so much that I’m about get another one piece ! I am wearing the Olivia One Piece in Small, it’s a perfect fit. Here’s a direct link : Olivia One Piece
Trail Ridge Road
Remember I said I did not want to miss the views from up-top? Trail Ridge Road is closed in the winter and we got lucky the snow was shoveled and the road opened right before Memorial Day Weekend! Yay! The views – oh my heart! No photo does justice, so plan a trip here so you can enjoy the mountains from your car! We stopped along the route several times to take big gulps of clean mountain air and of course get a few photos. There are so many hiking trails all along the way for those who are looking for more adventure!
